Alan Alborough, professor by die Department Beeldende Kunste van die Universiteit van Stellenbosch, is tans die gaskunstenaar by die Sasol Kunsmueum. Sy jongste projek, 'n reuse-installasie, is gebaseer op die eeue-oue tuisnywerheid tolletjie-brei of French braiding. As deel van di̩ projek betrek die kunstenaar ook groepe skoolkinders. Daar word elke Vrydag 'n werkwinkel gehou om hulle meer te leer oor di̩ ou kuns, oor kuns in die algemeen en ook om 'n bydrae te maak tot di̩ kunswerk. Die id̩e is dat die kunswerk oor weke groei en dat almal kan kom kyk hoe dit vorder en vorm aanneem. 'n Aantal graad 3-leerlinge en hul onderwyseres, mev. Ruwaida Fredericks (regs Agter) van Idasvallei Primer, het op 9 Mei kom hand bysit. Die leerlinge is Francois Johannes (agter) en (voor, van links) Kay-Lee Herandien, Shannon George en Nicole Benting.

French knitting

Alan Alborough, professor at the Department of Fine Arts of the University of Stellenbosch, is at present the guest artist at the Sasol Museum. His latest project, a vast installation, is based on the ancient craft French braiding. As part of this project, the artist also involves groups of schoolchildren. Every Friday a workshop is being run to teach them more about this ancient craft, about art in general and also to contribute towards this artwork. The idea is that the artwork develops over time and that everyone can observe how it grows and takes shape. A number of grade 3 learners and their teachers, Ms Ruwaida Fredericks (right, at the back) of Idasvalley Primary School, participated in the project on the 9th of May. The learners are Francois Johannes (at the back) and (front, from the left) Kay-Lee Herandien, Shannon George and Nicole Benting.
